When I moved from here to Buttondown, I had hopes for doing other things with the newsletter; I had projects and themes and guest posts lined up. But I hated the interface so much that I started to resent writing with it. It’s clunky and ugly and not very user friendly. It made me not want to do the newsletter anymore. So after a brief run at Buttondown, I shut Going it Alone down.
This wasn’t the only reason I shut it down. I often felt like I was writing into the void. The stats aren’t very robust on Buttondown so I really had no idea who was reading. And any writer who tells you they don’t care about the stats is lying. You want to know that people are listening to you. You want to know when you’ve reached someone. You want to be heard.
The thing is, I really miss writing. I’ve got a few things going on here and there, but the newsletter is what I miss. I miss the intimacy of it, the way I wrote out my feelings, shared things with you, told you what my favorite music is. I just truly miss the act of writing. I feel empty without it.
I do have a domain and hosting so eventually I will get that together and treat it like a blog and no longer do this. But until then, I will *sporadically* be back here, if you are still interested in reading. I know I am very interested in writing for you. So I’ll be doing that very soon.
Two programming notes: I turned off payments through this site, buttondown, and Stripe. If for some reason you are still being billed, let me know. Also, some of you may get an additional email from Buttondown because I have to send one out letting the newer people know I’ll be over here. Apologies in advance for that.
Welcome back! I missed your writing. I hope you are having a nice summer, and hope to hear all about it. In the end, if a site's interface doesn't work for you, it's good to cut your losses, bail and go back to where you're comfortable.
Welcome Back!!!
