Maybe it's easier for me because I've always looked 10 years younger and feel it, too, but I refuse to think of myself as old at 62. I've also accomplished a lot in my career and family life. I've taken very good care of myself and have good genetics. Still, I'm fully aware of what society thinks. I too hated the sound of the number sixty. It gave me a metallic taste in my mouth. I don't like being the oldest in the room. Over and over again people are astonished that I'm not a younger age, so I try to avoid telling my age. Their surprise and flattery does not necessarily make me feel good either. Rather, it creates and anxiety in me, a fascination and fear. What if I wake up tomorrow aged?

Being 60 sure as Hell beats the alternative, and a friend of mine once gave me a piece of advice I still find myself thinking about from time to time. He told me that you'd stop worrying about what other people think about you once you realize how little energy and space they have for thinking about anything other than themselves. I worry about gaining weight, and I've developed a bit of a paunch. My wife tells me that no one cares...and I'm sure she's right. It's just something else to beat myself up over...something that ultimately doesn't much matter.

I'm about six months from turning 62...and there are days like today when I feel every bit of 206. Turns out all those years of contact sports really DO catch up with you eventually.

Still and all, I'll take where I am over the alternative.

As for acting your age, I've yet to see the rule book on that one.

The way you’re supposed to act is how you WANT to act. It doesn’t matter what other people think. They aren’t living your life. You are. Be who you wanna be, act how you wanna act, wear what you wanna wear and never stop doing the things that bring you joy.

You are the author of your story - don’t let others tell you what or how to write it.

Go with the flow and just continue being you. You’ll grow and change as the years pass just make sure the changes are on your terms.

The meaning and purpose of life is whatever you want it to be.

xx hugs xx

Accomplished nothing? Warren Buffet says a successful life is one where everyone that you want to have love you, does love you. I'm 66, my kids love me, my grandkids adore me, that's all the accomplishments I need.
