Congratulations! I just turned 63 a few months ago and have been more or less semi-retired for a couple of years now. I find that I'm just burned out on career jobs. My give-a-fuck is broken, and I no longer have the ambition to fix it. I/we are fortunate in that we're good financially, but we do wonder what the future holds.
Good luck with stepping off into the void. I can imagine it feels pretty scary, but the freedom of not having to do the 8-5 shuffle five days a week must sound pretty nice. Give yourself some time to adjust, and remember to be good to yourself. A big life change like that can be good, but it also involves changing lifelong habits that are more ingrained than you know.
I have 9 yrs & 3 days on you; (8/28/53) "Terrified" is a continual state of mind - you just can't let it be the DOMINANT state - Focusing on NOW helps. Also - if you like being around kids - I discovered jobs in the local school system - here they call it "Educational Assistant" - you basically ... well.. assist... Anyway - here at least - Multiple jobs w. multiple & different "hours" are available at multiple schools - and - again, here at least - if you don't want a "regular" position, you can be a SUBSTITUTE - which allows you to choose when, where & how long you want to work on any particular day/week etc. Sorry... babbled too long GOOD LUCK - Happy ALMOST Birthday !!!!!
Congratulations! And Early Happy Birthday! I feel about 51 the way you describe turning 61. I was freaked-the-fuck-out turning 50 last year, but when I flipped the ones place three days ago, I could not have cared less. I had a pretty significant distraction, but even before that distraction reared its head in recent weeks, I didn’t care about turning older like I did a year ago.

Thank you, I will definitely check out the schools!
Great piece
Just don’t forget to breathe and keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will be ok.
