My son Jack had a puppy from Ikea that he dragged around as well, up until around the same age. He's 7 now, and at least allows it to stay in his bed, near the "foot" end. Half the stuffing is somehow missing despite there never being a hole to escape from. It's gonna suck real hard when he asks us to remove it entirely from his room, especially since we see it so often with other kids in our family. Every time there's a new baby, Jack insists on running to Ikea and giving it one. I don't know... maybe that'll actually help a bit? But I expect Katie to lose it emotionally when he hands it over.

This essay was very moving, thank you for writing it. I would guess most of us have experience with a "Lucy" somewhere in our lives.
