I think it’s not that “we as a country” allow this to happen, but rather that it’s somewhat more nuanced. Many many people do NOT want these things to happen anymore, and many of those people have voted in Congresspeople who also do not want these things to happen (MA resident here). But *enough* people care more about their guns than about existing children (let’s not even talk about their apparent depth of care for the pre-born, who take precedence over *everyone*), and enough of those folks voted in enough Congresspeople who are willing to be bought by the gun lobby known as the NRA to effectively block everyone -- *everyone!!* -- else who would institute reform. 😒😢🥺
