Those impactful words, "You did not ask to be brought into this world" were spoken to me by my late mother when expressing her hope that I'd feel life was fulfilling.

Her words resounded when I'd overhear a scolding parent say to a child, " just you wait 'til you have to deal with your own kids "

Our son has heard me repeat his grandmother's words as we

have strived to assure that he feels his own life is fulfilling . I am grateful for my mother's attitude shaping wisdom.

Michelle,

Thank you for sharing this event in your parenting journey. It has inspired me to reflect upon the times that one or more of my 3 have said the same: Usually in the heat of an argument, often in arger, and at least once - in despair. In my cases, it hit like a cry of 'Not Fair!' - because, as you pointed out - they didn't really have a choice in the matter. It was the one that was said ina tone of despair that really shook me - because that kind of despair can lead to very bad outcomes. Fortunately, in my/our case - it did not, but it's bothered me ever since. I suspect that it's a rare parent that doesn't experience this kind of exchange with their offspring during their parenting journey, although I hope that for most it's a transient event - during their child's hormone soaked teen years as opposed to later in life. It's bad anytime - and a clue-bat that whatever is going on, a different approach and/or direction to whatever triggered the outburst is warranted.

Thanks again - and I pray that the world will be kind to you and those you love.

-Brian.
